Membership grades
Your Engineers Ireland membership grade depends on your educational qualifications.
Ordinary member (MIEI)
To become an Ordinary member of Engineers Ireland, you will need one of the following:
- An accredited level 7, 8 or 9 qualification
- An qualification recognised through the Washington Accord, Sydney Accord or as listed on the FEANI index, as meeting the educational standard for this grade
- Other engineering qualifications or learning experiences that we consider satisfy the requirements of the Ordinary member grade.

Technician member (Tech IEI)
To become a Technician member of Engineers Ireland, you will need one of the following:
- An accredited level 6 qualification
- An engineering qualification recognised through the Dublin Accord or through an EU directive, as meeting the educational standard for this grade
- Other engineering qualifications or learning experiences that we consider satisfy the educational standards of the Technician member grade.

Alternative routes to membership
If you have qualifications other than those stated in the general criteria for membership, you can still apply for membership through an alternative route. We will assess you on your engineering expertise and academic qualification.
