International recognition

Through the international agreements we sign on behalf of our members, Engineers Ireland titles and qualifications are recognised in many countries around the world.

What is international recognition?

We are a signatory to a range of international and bilateral agreements for the mutual recognition of engineering qualifications, in the EU and overseas.

This means that:

EU professional title: Eur Ing

FEANI, the European Federation of National Engineering Associations, awards the title of Eur Ing to suitably qualified engineers.

How it works

FEANI keeps a register of European Engineers to ensure that their professional qualifications are acknowledged in Europe and worldwide.

If you are a chartered engineer and have worked in a European country for at least two years, you can apply for the FEANI title of Eur Ing.

European network for accreditation

Engineers Ireland is a founding member of ENAEE, which grants authority to engineering accreditation agencies to add the “EUR-ACE Label” to First-cycle and Second-cycle engineering programmes which each agency has accredited subject to certain criteria being satisfied.

International Register of Professional Engineers

Engineers Ireland is responsible for the Irish section of the International Register of Professional Engineers.

How it works

If you apply for registration as a professional engineer abroad, inclusion in the international registrar of Professional Engineers guarantees your eligibility.

To join the registrar, you must be a Chartered Engineer with at least seven years professional experience.
